Alex Cepeda Ramos, born on 3 February 1977, studied at the art academy in Trinidad from 2006 to 2009. He is characterized by an enormous painterly diversity. Besides his speciality, the impressionistic painting style, he also paints very fine charcoal drawings. He masters the whole range from expressionistic-abstract paintings to finely outlined, clearly structured drawings. He often experiments with collages, incorporating various textiles such as tulle, jeans or jute into his often large-scale paintings. In his last series of lightly veiled female nudes, his subtle irony is also evident, the women seem like caricatures of themselves. A wonderful allusion to our Selfie time today! For me, Alex embodies the epitome of a lively Cuban painter who, despite all the adversities in Cuba, always remains true to himself.
