José Salas Martínez was born in Havana in 1949. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1972 San Alejandro in Havana. In 1987 he completed a course in graphic book design. Works as a freelance artist in the field of abstract art. Since 1982 and up to the present day, he has regularly participated in art exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad and also in the Havana Biennial. In addition to paintings, he creates complex sculptures in wood. Thanks to his high-precision painting technique, he transforms them into amazingly three-dimensional pictures. An aesthete as one rarely finds in his work any more. He says of himself that he only paints for his own pleasure, but that this only comes about at the end when he looks at the finished work. He is, a prisoner of his own art. And a great enrichment for art lovers of geometric-abstract art!
