Enrique Daussat, born in 1955 in the rural province of Pinar del Rio, dreamed of city life in Havana even as a boy. He studied art at the Raul Sanchez Art Academy in Pinar del Rio. He graduated in 1972 and taught at the art school as professor of fine arts from 1974 to 1992. Since then he has worked as a freelance artist in Havana. His pictures with the striking female faces, painted in strong colours and with his own unique mixed technique, are of the finest Cuban art. He is also one of the best contemporary poets in Cuba.
